Who we are
The National Childbirth Trust is the largest and
best known childbirth and parenting charity in Europe. Run by parents, for
parents, the NCT is rooted in local communities across the UK, through its
network of 330 local branches run by volunteers. The charity provides a
range of educational and support services at local and national level to
members and non-members alike. Set up over 50 years ago, the NCT has
successfully campaigned for many important changes, including, for example,
the right of a woman in labour to be accompanied by a birth partner. Today
the NCT has around 42,000 members and promotes the principle of “informed
choice” for women and their partners.
The Towcester & District Branch is volunteer run
through a committee. It covers Towcester and the surrounding villages. The
branch organises a wide range of social and fundraising events for member
and non-members, including coffee mornings and evening events. The branch
also runs antenatal classes, provides support for new parents and runs two
Nearly New Sales a year.
What we do
On a national level, the NCT regularly works with the Department of Health on information campaigns, has successfully led the campaign for fathers to be present at the birth, and is working to prevent babies from being regularly taken from mothers and put into nurseries after birth. We are currently lobbying for breastfeeding friendly hospitals and practical help for parents, and are at the forefront of the campaign to halt the rise in unnecessary caesareans.
Locally we offer support, both informal and formal, for parents and carers from pregnancy onwards.

We can offer you antenatal classes, coffee mornings in your area, evenings out without your children, Nearly New Sales and lots, lots more… We produce a quarterly newsletter that is available to members and new members. This is full of helpful information on what there is to do with your kids in
the Towcester area, parent-to-parent tips, great buys, reviews, recipes, and more.
When you become a member you will also receive 'New Gen', the National Childbirth Trust Magazine, which has evidence based articles about pregnancy, birth and early parenting, the campaigning work of the charity, information on products, as well as special offers and savings.
